Rt. Hon. John N. Turner, P.C., C.C., Q.C.
Former
Canadian Prime Minister John Turner was first elected to
the House of Commons in June 1962 as Member of Parliament
for Montreal-St. Lawrence-St. George. During his 25 years
as a member of Parliament, he held many Cabinet posts, including
Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs, Solicitor General,
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and
Minister of Finance. He resigned from that position in September
1975, and in 1976 joined the law firm of McMillan, Binch
in Toronto. John Turner returned to the House of Commons
and was elected leader of The Liberal Party of Canada, and
was sworn in as the seventeenth Prime Minister of Canada
on June 30, 1984. He remained the Member of Parliament for
Vancouver Quadra until 1993. Mr.
Turner has practised law in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver,
since 1954. He served in the House of Commons for almost
25 years, and is the only man in history to have represented
three provinces, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. Mr.
Turner served as Prime Minister of Canada in 1984.
For
the last fifteen years Mr. Turner has been a partner in
the Toronto law firm of Miller Thomson. Mr. Turner is presently
on the Board of Directors of The Empire Life Insurance Company,
The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, Northland
Power Income Fund and Q9 Networks Inc.
Mr. Turner attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar
and received from that university a Bachelor of Arts in
jurisprudence, a Bachelor of Civil Law, and a Master of
Arts. He holds numerous Honourary Doctor of Laws degrees
from many distinguished institutions.
Mr.
Harry Burgess P.Eng
Mr. Burgess, a Vice-President with Micon International Limited,
has over 30 years of experience with mining operations in
China, Africa, North America and Australia. Qualified as
both a mining engineer and a mechanical engineer, Mr. Burgess'
consulting experience includes worldwide mineral property
and mine evaluations, production financing studies and project
monitoring. In China, he has managed and contributed to
project teams carrying out due diligence reviews of underground
polymetallic operations in Guangxi Province and gold prospects
in Gansu province. He was also an advisor on the design
of underground mining methods for the Jiangxi Copper Company,
in Jiangxi Province. Mr. Burgess also has direct management
experience on the Zambian copper belt and in the South African
gold mining industry, where he was responsible for the introduction
of mechanized mining systems to the gold mines of Anglo-American
Corporation.
Dr.
Henry Jarecki
Dr. Henry G. Jarecki is Chairman of the New York-based The
Falconwood Corporation, an investment banking company managing
investments in numerous businesses. Dr. Jarecki is known
in the precious metals business for his work with Mocatta
& Goldsmid, bullion dealers to the Bank of England since
1671, and with Mocatta Metals Inc., a company he founded
and later sold to Standard Chartered Bank. During the 1980s,
Dr. Jarecki became known as a dominant force in the international
gold and silver markets and is widely recognized as the
principal counterparty to the Hunt brothers in their failed
attempt to corner the silver market in 1979.Dr. Jarecki
is a past Director of the National Futures Association and
has served as a Director of Commodity Exchange, Inc. (COMEX),
the Chicago Board of Trade, and the Futures Industry Association.
Mr. Donald
McKinnon
With more than 40 years of experience in the international
mineral exploration industry, Mr. McKinnon is renowned for
the discovery of Hemlo, one of Canada's largest and richest
gold mining camps. Mr. McKinnon currently receives royalties
from 5 different mines and is known around the mining world
for his research and extensive library. A fierce advocate
for multiple land use, he was named prospector of the year
in 1983, received the Order of Canada in 1996 and the
Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002.
